Hieropolis Kastabala is an ancient city in Cilicia. Nothing is known about the founding of the city. It is first mentioned as Kastabala, as Alexander the Great stopped here before the Battle of Issus in 333 BC.
It minted it's own coins from about 200 BC and on. In 260 AD, the Sassanid ruler Shapur I conquered the city after he had captured Valerian. In the 4th century, under Theodosius I, the city was taken by the Balearic Isaurians .
